The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) believes the people of Nadi and Fiji at large are lucky to have the Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) which is a Multispecialty100-bed hospital that was officially opened by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in July 2023.
“I was fortunate to be one of the speakers at the opening and having seen the impressive establishment, I was quite convinced that PSH would be able to offer the widest range of specialist medical care, not only for the Fijian community but the entire pacific region,” NCCI president Dr Raju said.
“Mr Parvish Kumar, the founder and managing director of PSH, (born and bred in Nadi) mentioned to me that he would like to offer the most advanced medical care to the people of Fiji and beyond, so that no one should have to travel abroad and spend thousands of dollars on air tickets and accommodation apart from the medical bills,” Dr Raju who is also the former president of Fiji College of General Practitioners (FCGP) added.
“Having established the first PSH Hospital in Walu Bay, Suva about 8-years-ago (2016), Parvish saw the need to expand the services in the Western Division.
“He has invested millions of dollars to install the latest state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and millions of dollars in state-of-the-art operating theatres where all the complex surgical procedures can be conducted here at PSH at a fraction of the cost.
“No one must travel abroad anymore especially for the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) – all thanks to PSH, Parvish and his team of dedicated professionals who have successfully carried out their first open-heart surgery and that too a triple-graft bypass right here in Nadi.
“Parvish has more ambitious plans as he had mentioned at the opening in July last year, of organ transplants and much more.
“Slowly and surely, he has expanded the facilities and services to meet the expectations and I’m confident that in due course his mission and vision will be realised fully soon.
“Fiji and Nadi have a great deal to offer when it comes to astute medical services which makes us feel proud.”
Dr Raju said PSH by far is the single most significant addition to medical tourism and is deemed to be a super multi specialty hospital as good as any private hospital in the world.
“As PSH gains more specialised units, such as knee, hip and kidney transplants etcetera, they are poised to give confidence to all tourists visiting Fiji.
“I’m aware that many elderly tourists would first inquire about the medical facilities and services in Fiji before booking flights.
“And not only that, but international sporting organisations would also similarly feel confident in coming to Fiji and engaging in sporting tournaments. So, it equally boosts sports tourism.
“The decompression or the hyperbaric chamber that is being installed as well at PSH Nadi will undoubtedly attract diving enthusiasts from choosing Fiji as a destination for professional as well as recreational divers. Many of our own divers who often suffer from decompression sickness can be taken care of in Nadi rather than travelling to Suva.
“NCCI is absolutely delighted with the developments of PSH Hospital in Nadi. At the same time, PSH in Suva is also expanding with more specialised services and more beds added in.
“Fiji was already in the market of medical tourism when the first private hospital opened in Suva which is now Oceania Hospitals.
“The opening of Heart International in Namaka, Nadi about 10-years-ago that was set up by cardiac specialists from Auckland, New Zealand, added another service for advanced cardiac services in the form of stenting procedures.
“Nadi also has state-of-the-art dialysis centre – Kidney Hub offering dialysis and nephrology services. Fiji therefore needs to be strongly marketed for medical tourism which can potentially grow bringing in much needed foreign currency and revenue to the country.”
