In a landslide victory, Lawrence Kumar, a qualified engineer and former administrator of the Nadi Town Council has been elected as the new president of Nadi Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
He succeeds Dr Ram Raju who led the NCCI for 17 consecutive years and was ousted in a landslide vote of no confidence by an overwhelming number of members as close to a hundred people attended the Special General Meeting (SGM) at Bluelight Village Hotel in Nadi.
The meeting was chaired by academic Dr Sunil Kumar who was voted in unanimously to preside over the SGM by the majority of those present in order to ensure a free and fair event.
In his official address, president Lawrence Kumar said he will work tirelessly with the new and credible team to incorporate inclusivity, accountability and transparency in NCCI.
“These three key things were missing all this while and we aim to change it in the next six months,” Mr Kumar said.
He said a lot of things were happening in “secrecy” in the past and he will ensure that the new board listens to its members rather than being vice-versa.
Other members elected are as follows:-
Vice Presidents – Kishore Kumar, Vijendra Pillay, Secretary – Shalendra Prasad,
Treasurer – Vinay Sharma, Board Members – Ashfaaq Khan, Dr Shakeel Ahmed Shariff, Mohammed Aiyaz Munif, David Jamieson, Rina Kumar, Anita Narayan, Sudhish Patel, Sumeet Prasad, Akesa Lovodua, and Jerry Gounder.
The new board looks forward to the continued support and patronage of all stakeholders in moving Nadi forward.
