The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) paid tribute to thousands of Bangladeshi workers who are filling in the much needed gaps in the local labour market.

Speaking at the Bangladesh Day celebrations in Nadi on Sunday, May 25, NCCI president Dr Ram Raju said if it was not for the input and hard work of migrant Bangladeshi workers, Fiji would have been severely affected with lack of development in all sectors of the economy.

Dr Raju also commended Anchor Care Migration and Recruitment which is based in Adelaide, Australia with a global network of customers across different continents for ensuring that skilled and appropriate workers are recruited for various works by adhering to the laws of the country.

NCCI president Dr Ram Raju receives a token of appreciation from Farjana Sultana Prova while Anchor Care Migration and Recruitment CEO Mohammad Masudur Rahman looks on.

“I would like to take this opportunity to also thank Mr Mohammad Masudur Rahman, the CEO of Anchor Care Migration and Recruitment for his timely sponsorship which was crucial in making our first annual Business Forum on Friday, May 23 a huge success with record number of participants,” Dr Raju said.

Ashfaaq Khan, the managing director of Fiji’s fastest growing white-goods and exclusive product retailers – AL-HAMD Smart Living also acknowledged the role of Bangladeshi workers in the country.

“We have nine workers in our company and am happy to see that their contributions are making a huge impact in our business,” Mr Khan said.

Mr Khan also raised concerns on the use of kava which he believes creates lack of productivity and alertness the next day.

“I also wish to highlight certain etiquettes and acceptable forms of behaviors and local social norms which workers should learn to adapt to.”
